These paintings mainly focus on connection — how one is attached to oneself through the environment around them; this can consist of noise, the motions of work, the touch of another. I aim to capture it all through the way I move paint.
I recently felt restless with the work environment around me, examined in my series "Reconnection", and I aimed to capture this by repeating specific forms. I appreciate the universal language of the human body and find myself drawn to this when it comes to repetition. I paint the exterior chaos because it mirrors my non-linear thoughts, and I paint it because I like defying a moment in time. My motions with a brush are very quick; they often reference general forms, as I just need enough information for the audience to associate with the subject.
I developed this interest through my education at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater where I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BFA in Painting and a Teaching Licensure.
I was born in Saint Paul, Minnesota but quickly relocated to Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. This is where I stayed for the rest of my childhood into my adult years. I plan on travelling to Italy in the coming months where I can study from life and further develop my work.
